An empirical ship domain based on evasive maneuver and perceived collision risk

چکیده
This paper introduced a new ship domain concept and an analytical framework. The takes the point of ship's first evasive maneuver as basis correlates it with navigator-perceived collision risk level. is detected based on turning identification intention estimation. available maneuvering margin (AMM) utilized proxy to measure perceived by navigator. Interpreting in terms this AMM over large sample vessel encounters taken from automatic system (AIS) data finally enables empirical estimation size domain. method applied AIS Northern Baltic Sea, separate domains are constructed for give-way stand-on vessels different maneuverability characteristics. Compared existing proximity-based domain, explicitly incorporates dynamic nature encounter process navigator's maneuvers. Several advantages proposed limitations presented modeling approach discussed. Finally, possible future applications explained, including waterway safety assessment navigational decision support systems reduce ship-ship risk.
